Winter Remodeling Projects

Winter Remodeling ProjectsHang on to your warm furry hats, the groundhog hath spoken. Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction on February 2nd welcomed us all to six more weeks of cold weather. Winter is a good time to focus on your home and undertake updating the interior or addressing repairs you may have been putting off. Many homeowners have found that winter is the perfect time for home remodeling projects. The advantages to remodeling your home during the winter may be exactly what you’re looking for.

This idea may seem a little unorthodox and people tend to feel like they have to stay cooped up in the cold weather. However, Spring and Summer tend to be the favorite times of the year for people to undertake home improvements and these seasons are the “rush hour traffic” of remodeling.  But you can beat the rush by doing your remodeling in the winter.  It’s just like leaving work an hour early. You get to where you’re going a lot faster even though you’re taking the exact same route you would take any day. Consider Winter-friendly remodels and focus on outdoor projects when the warm weather arrives.

Some great project ideas to help beat those winter blues:

Basement Remodel

Basement RemodelYour basement may feel like a dungeon as of now. It might be cold and barren at the moment. However, you can create a space with a bar or a gaming area where you can spend the rest of winter escaping from the boredom of being trapped inside. Additionally, installing carpeting in your basement will keep it warmer. You might just see a change in your heating bills because of adding insulation and carpeting to the lowest level of your home. The winter air has less humidity. Therefore, there’s less of a risk of mold forming in an area where it’s exposed.

Bathroom Remodel

Bathroom RemodelBathrooms are the smallest rooms in most houses, but we spend plenty of time in there, often in a hurry to get out the door or get the kids clean and into bed. These important rooms should function well, but look great for company and for your own pleasure and relaxation. Replacing your bath, shower or tapware can make a huge difference. Your small bathroom will feel bigger if you install new frameless glass shower screens. And to keep you really cosy, install a heat lamp-light-exhaust-fan combo, heated towel ladders or in-floor heating.

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood FlooringInstalling hardwood flooring is an exciting project to take on during the winter months. Dry winter air is beneficial to the flooring. It prevents gaps in the floor boards. The lower humidity reduces the chance for water damage. Plus, the cold winter air helps speed up the drying process of the adhesive. Once there’s new flooring down, you might just save yourself money on your energy bills and not have to wear slippers since the newer flooring tends to be insulated better.

Home Office

Home OfficeThe wintertime presents a good opportunity to hunker down and get some work done. Give yourself a dedicated space to focus on paperwork, balance your checkbook or relax with a book by transforming an extra space into a home office. With an office, you finally have a place in your home to work, making your professional goals much more achievable.

Kitchen Remodel

Kitchen RemodelThe kitchen is the heart of your home. You prepare and eat meals there, possibly as a family, so why not add new life to the area by installing new cabinetry and flooring for everyone to enjoy? It wouldn’t hurt to update the color of the walls as well to enhance the appeal of the kitchen even further.

Window Replacements

Window ReplacementsDon’t forget about your windows! To keep cold air at bay and reduce energy costs, updated windows will add style and functionality to your home. Inquire about double or triple-paned windows or insulated glass units. These multiple-paned windows help minimize the escape of warm air, keeping your house cozier throughout the winter months and your energy costs down.
